Redfish Weekly Coach Message
Hello Redfish Families!!
What a great meet yesterday!! Not only did we win our second meet, we had a total of 178 total time improvements, 102 swimmers achieving time improvements in 1 or 2 of their events, and 13 triple fins achievements!! We also had several records broken (again) and it is only meet 2!! Finally, we had multiple first time swims and it was so awesome to see so many swimmers challenging themselves with newly learned strokes and longer events like the 100 IM. The coaches are super proud of everyone!!
We want to keep this momentum going, so this next week at practice we are going to really hone in on technique, turns/transitions, “underwaters”, and starts. We will have a warm up and workout and then work on technique in the following way:
- Monday 5/23 - Turns/Transitions
- Tuesday 5/24 - Finishes/Transitions
- Wednesday 5/25 - "Underwaters"/Starts
- Thursday 5/26 - NO PRACTICE/LAST DAY OF SCHOOL (for most swimmers)
- Friday 5/27 - All starts/relay starts
We will also help your swimmers figure out proper goggle and cap placement!! There were lots of goggles that came off on Saturday and a lot of that has to do with where the straps are placed on the swimmers head as well as the suction on the eye sockets. :-)
Finally, we must announce our awesome Swimmers of the Week!! It is always so hard to narrow it down because ALL of your swimmers are doing awesome things, but here is who stood out to us this week:
6 & unders:
- Girl- Caroline Keegan: For always smiling at practice and listening to the coaches.
- Boy- Aarjun Choudhary: For having a fabulous meet, always working hard at practice, and great team camaraderie.
7-8:
- Girl- Amelie Stoffels: She has a great work ethic and is always giving it her all.
- Boy- Ryder Rector: He has jumped right in and done amazing even with it being his first year.
9-10:
- Girl- Daphne Steed: She has a positive attitude, works hard, and is always listening to the coaches and their critiques.
- Boy- Caden Drake: He had a great meet, stepped up to the 11-12 boys free relays, and has worked hard even with a bum knee. :-)
11-12:
- Girl- Addison Simons: She has been working through ankle pain and still giving it her all at practice and the meets.
- Boy- Austin Williamson: He has had a great work ethic and got his flip turn down! Austin also dropped time in his backstroke and swam with great technique.
13-14:
- Girl- Ryland LaFeber: She is always working hard in practice, has a smile all the time, and has had a great start to the season with time drops and beautiful swims!
- Boy- Jan Pawlowski: He is always asking questions and advice to improve in his swimming, always giving it his all and is a great asset to the older age group!!
15&Up:
- Girl- Amelie Breton: She is always helpful as a Junior Coach, and her personality is really shining this season! She also had a swim meet Friday night and then came and rocked it Saturday both in and out of the water.
- Boy- Jason Cheng: Jason has been extremely helpful on deck, willing to help in any way, super encouraging his teammates, and a stellar swimmer in the Senior age group.
Finally, when you are at practice this week, please visit the “Lost and Found” area in the shed. There are lots of fins, water bottles, and goggles that have been picked up at practice and we accumulated even more from the meet yesterday. There is even a very nice Yeti cooler that may get auctioned off if someone doesn’t claim it!!
Thanks for a great week of swimming! Looking forward to the next one and our first away meet!!
GoooOOOO Redfish!
