About Redfish
The Redfish Swim Team is a summer-only (April – July) competitive swim team. Any Avery Ranch resident between the ages of 4 - 18 on May 1st is eligible to try out for the team. Renters are considered the resident of any Avery Ranch address.
Swimmers are expected to be able to swim the full 25 meters of the pool unassisted without touching the lane lines and/or the walls by the end of the first week of practice. If swimmers are unable to swim the length of the pool unassisted, the coaches will recommend that they drop from the team and spend the year in lessons to prepare for next year. Swimmers who are asked to drop from the team will be refunded all but $30 of their registration fee.
The Redfish Swim Team is run by parent volunteers. To join the team, all parents are asked to select their volunteer position(s) and commit to them. If you do not volunteer you cannot be a part of the Redfish. The Redfish could not happen without all the parents helping as it takes many volunteers to run multiple Swim Meets (Home and Away), prepare social activities, ordering gear and throwing a banquet. All the money raised by the Redfish ultimately goes back to our swimmers and parents by paying for coaching, pools, equipment, social activities, t-shirts, medals, trophies and everything else. This is what makes the Redfish fabulous!
Redfish Home Meets are held at the beautiful Avery Ranch Main Amenity Center 8-Lane, 25-Meter Pool.
The Redfish Swim Team is a member of the North Austin Aquatic League and competes against the following member teams in May and June:
- Great Hills (Gators)
- Balcones Woods (Blue Wave)
- Westover Hills (Wild Orcas)
- Twin Creeks (Texas Twisters)
- JCC (Piranhas)
- Forest Creek (Fast Frogs)
- Falcon Pointe (Flyers)
At the end of our season (End of June) we have an NAAL Championship Meet (CHAMPS) which includes ALL the teams. Following CHAMPS, we have a banquet filled with food and fun to end our season.
The North Austin Aquatic League was formed to create a friendly atmosphere for the benefit and personal satisfaction of our children. The league strives to offer an opportunity for children and young people to challenge themselves, to learn and think in a positive manner, to be part of a team and enjoy the experience of friendly competition and good sportsmanship.
The summer league season is a fast paced ten week period but everyone who experiences it has a great time, makes new friends and looks forward to the next year.
The Avery Ranch Redfish is a 501c3 (not-for-profit) organization. The team operates under an established "usage agreement" with the Avery Ranch HOA, and an HOA Board member acts as a liaison with the swim team. Elections are held at the end of each season to nominate the next season's leadership board members.
